Jawnt is on a mission to make it easy for organizations to offer commuter benefits that administrators love and employees actually use. Every month, we help over a hundred thousand commuters ride transit. Our work would not be possible without the vision and action of pioneers like Larry Filler, who we are thrilled to announce is joining us as an advisor.
Transit agency staff, policymakers, and advocates might know Larry as the founder and former CEO of TransitCenter. At TransitCenter, Larry created the nation’s first transit benefit program, TransitChek, and led the development of the federal tax benefit. He created the first terminal-restricted debit card system adopted by the IRS as an electronic voucher, worked to expand the use of commuter tax benefits as a pretax benefit in addition to a subsidy, and helped achieve parity in the monthly cap between transit/vanpools and parking. He’s served in senior management positions for many commuter service and transportation demand management organizations, working to expand and enhance the use of transit benefits and the use of sustainable travel modes in the New York metro area and across the country. We look forward to seeing him continue this work, while ensuring that Jawnt is there at the forefront to support employees, employers, and transit.
“I’m very excited to be working with Jawnt on helping them to expand the use of their first in class commuter tax benefit services,” said Larry. “Jawnt is a unique offering in the commuter benefit space by providing not only high quality tax benefit administration and customer services but seeking to expand the use of all sustainable modes through supporting services such as their Jawnt Maps, partnerships with micromobility service providers, and helping transit agencies to deliver innovative fare media services.”
“Larry’s impact on commuter benefits is unmatched, and having him join Jawnt is a game-changer,” said Jeff. “His expertise helps us stay at the forefront of the industry, so we can not just meet the current needs of employers and employees but also shape the future of commuting.”
Larry is working closely with Jawnt to help shape the future of our products and services. This means bolstering our existing offerings, so our employers know that Jawnt is fully compliant with all local, state, and federal tax regulations. This also means helping us craft new offerings that meet the needs of both compliance requirements, and a modern, diverse workforce, such as providing support for all sustainable modes through partner-offered Guaranteed Ride Home services and free/reduced fare programs. And this means Jawnt will be able to translate the feedback we receive from clients to the forefront of federal and state policymaking.
We are incredibly excited to have Larry Filler join the Jawnt team. His experience and passion for sustainable transportation align perfectly with our goals of upgrading commuter benefits. With his help, we’ll continue to improve experiences for HR administrators and employees alike.
Larry is a certified Transportation Demand Management (TDM) professional, TDM-CP, from the international Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT). Larry is active in several leadership roles in ACT, including chair of the Carpool Council and a member of the Public Policy Committee, where he leads an effort to expand the use of commuter tax benefits to carpooling and micromobility. He also is a board member of the Ridersharing Institute. Larry is a frequent speaker on various TDM subjects at national conferences and webinars.Â
If it’s hard now to imagine a time when transit wasn’t eligible for pretax benefits, check out this New York Times article from 1993 during the initial rollout where Larry details the origin of the program. We're excited to continue building on this work and as always, send any comments or questions our way at hello@jawntpass.com.
